Strawberry Lane

Strawberry Lane is a residential townhouse community just east of downtown Boise.

Some History of the Strawberry Land

With infill of the old section of the neighborhood now complete, residential development sprang into the foothills and south toward the river. In the early 60’s, the Square at Strawberry Lane was built with contemporary, California style homes and common grounds. The spectacular, old age trees at Strawberry Lane are a remnant of the trailer park community which once occupied the site.
The success of the Square was soon followed by higher density development along Lewis and Holly streets, and the Dorchester and Cambridge Arms Apartments – all within a short walk to Municipal Park and the Greenbelt.

Strawberry Square History

Strawberry Square was originally developed by Wedgwood. Strawberry Square plat was approved Aug 8, 1971.  Wedgwood homes built them and marketed them by Richard B. Smith. A similar complex was offered on Westview Drive in Boise at the same time. (Including 9810 Westview Drive.) Some of these ads ran April, 1970 (before the plat was approved?) We are still researching, but some think that the south townhomes were built by Wedgwood, but the units on the North were by a different developer – it’s possible Wedgwood had problems!

Furnished by Sherm Perry-could buy the furniture with the purchase.

Models were:

Lido ($38,400) 2 1/2 bath, 3 BR
Caribbean ($38,500) 3 BR
Riviera ($39,900) 3 BR
Biscayne (Single Level) ($32,950) 2 bath, 2 BR

Pam M went down a rabbit hole to find listings at the Idaho Statesman to see advertisements and information about the Square. (Thank you Boise Public Library!)

On the north side they did a number of single level homes. Here is the original floorpans for the Bisbayne II – two single level 3BR/2BA townhouses.

And in 1981 The Boise City Design Review Committee awarded The Square with recognition for the design.
